TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Lafayette Aviators advance to the Prospect League Championship Series with an 9-0 victory over the REX Sunday at Sycamore Stadium.
The Eastern Conference Champion Aviators will host game one of the Championship Series on Tuesday.
The Aviators came out firing, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st. Keifer Wilson plated the first run, driving in Diego Frey with a 2-out single. Then, Tripp Johns doubled to move Wilson to third before Gavin Smith launched a 3-run shot. It was 4-0 Aviators after just one frame.
Insurance was added by the Aviators in the 2nd and 4th courtesy of Frey and Adrian Davis. First, Frey dropped down a bunt to score Davis. Then, Frey singled to score Davis, and the Aviators led 6-0 heading into the 5th.
The Aviators added two more in the 5th with two hit-by-pitches and a pair of singles. Johns and Davis scored to make it 8-0.
The final run came in the 7th as Bradyn Douglas doubled home Davis, and the Aviators had put the game away at 9-0.
The Aviators' pitching completely shut down REX, only allowing 4 hits. David Moore picked up the victory in the start, tossing 5+ shutout innings and striking out 4.
